Didn't have a lot of time to get a real shoot done on the 25th (for day 24) hence the lack of blogpost. Though, on Sunday the 26th I arrived in Hiroshima and immediately made my way to the site of the atom bomb. Honestly it was a pretty emotional afternoon and after spending a couple of hours wandering around I went home and curled up in bed, pretty angry at the world. These shots were taken across the river in front of the A-bomb dome - which was destroyed but somehow left standing when the first atom bomb used (other than in test conditions) went off. It stands because the bomb went off almost directly above it, some 600 metres in the air. When it went off, temperatures on the earth surrounding it rose to 3000 degrees celcius, killing everybody outside almost immediately. Some 140,000 people died because of the bomb from the time it went off the the end of the year (some five months). It was really moving to see all this, especially having already seen Pearl Harbour a few years ago.
25/365. Thought I'd do something different with a square crop for a change. |
